Pamir, high plateau region, Central Asia. Located mainly
in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and extending into northeastern Afghanistan and
northwestern China, the plateau forms part of the Pamirs-Alai mountain system.
Also in the system are the Trans-Alai Range (Qatorkuhi Pasi Oloy), the Peter the
First Range, and Akademii Nauk Range.The highest peaks are Communism Peak (7495
m) and Lenin Peak (7134 m). The Pamirs is a connecting link
between the Tien Shan, Kunlun, Karakorum, and Hindu Kush mountain ranges.
